Hi, I’m Romina! A Chilean violinist and sound designer based in Canada.
I’ve been developing my game audio skills through game jams and freelance projects, working as both a sound designer and composer.
I love exploring new sonic textures by combining my acoustic violin with effects pedals.
Collaborating and jamming with other artists and developers is one of my favourite parts of the creative process.
Below, you’ll find the game jams I’ve participated in so far, along with selected sample tracks.
I composed the music and created the sound design. The music was inspired by gypsy jazz, so I learned the style through tutorials and recorded guitar parts accordingly. For sound effects, I recorded a cable being plugged into a pedal with varying pressure to capture different textures, and used a can opener recording to create the scrolling sound in the date section.
Ambient music for video game Metromotions. In Metromotions, you can manage a subway train filled with musical plants whose melodies affect the passengers' emotions around. The music changes while more passengers get happy. The full song is inspired by the public transportation STM (three notes of subway of Montréal).
As part of a 12-person creative team, we developed Bugsie’s Zoomies, a hybrid 2D/3D game. I composed the music for the 2D sections and designed all sound effects. The bubble sounds were created using a straw for continuous bubbles and lip pops for individual bubble effects.
I participated as part of the Noize Crew at the Game Jam de Québec, where I composed the music for the game. The first track is inspired by Baroque violin music and was performed by me on violin. The second track was created collaboratively with the developers, who provided the chant “JEAN-NATHAN, JEAN-NATHAAAAN!!”, the most fun part of the project to produce.
My first Game Jam, I made the art of the game using Aseprite. The game is about selecting a colour that will allow you to continue, so you have to be fast!
